Welcome to K-4 Music at ABS and WCS!

K-4 students in Williston have general music class once each week for 40 minutes. All students experience a variety of music activities- all of which are tailored to address the National Core Arts Standards. These activities include singing, playing instruments, dancing, exploring expressive movement, improvising, and integrating with other subject areas. Students experience a variety of music in different modes, meters, languages, and styles.

3rd/4th Graders Building Rhythmic Skills

3rd/4th graders have been learning a sea chantey called "John Kanaka." They are working hard to master a rhythm that involves passing cups around the circle. The idea was taken from a video on YouTube. Search  "The Lost Quays John Kanaka" to find it.

In the Hall of the Mountain King

1st/2nd graders have been practicing steady beat skills by bouncing a ball and listening to "In the Hall of the Mountain King," by Edvard Grieg. This is a short clip, but it gives you a glimpse at the activity. Pardon my loud whispering; my mouth was close to the iPad mic.

Choice Time in Music

Choice time in music class is fun!
The students may color or draw, put together music jigsaw puzzles, play with puppets, or make music with specific websites/apps.

Different grade levels have experienced different sites/apps. Percussive, Brain Pop (the music section,) Incredibox, Isle of Tune, and Chrome Music Lab are some of the choices.
